Climate and Weather

The climate in Barcelone is inevitably Mediterranean and is usually pleasant most of the year. Their temperatures are usually not extreme and we can encrypt the annual average between 16 and 18 degrees.

Barcelone's Mediterranean climate is characterized by warm temperatures in summer and mild ones in winter, without noticing significant variations between the highest and lowest temperatures. There are little rains, although it has not been the first time that only in a few hours, more than 80 liters of water per square fell. It hardly ever freezes in Barcelone, unless you go to the Tibidabo.

However, Barcelone city usually has a few more degrees compared to the cities of its periphery, which is known as a hot spot effect, due to urban development and to increased energy consumption.

In summer and specially in August, which is the hottest month, temperatures range between 25 and 35 degrees, even reaching to the 40 degrees at certain times of day. The feeling of sultriness, xafogor in Catalan, is produced by the high temperatures, the high humidity and the lack of wind.
When it’s so hot there place where you can best be is bathing in the beach of the Barceloneta, for example.

Conversely, if you come to Barcelone in winter, don't forget your thermal clothing, scarf and coat!

During the spring and autumn you can enjoy a good temperature, with an average of 20 degrees, so it is common to see swimmers in the beaches since late March and early April.
Although these two stations are unstable due to the rain and you can have three or four days of rain, you usually can enjoy a nice weather and enjoy a nice stroll around Barcelone.
In addition, on April 23, it is Sant Jordi in Barcelone, the day of the rose and the book, and it's a good occasion for visiting the city.

As a curiosity, precisely because the good weather we have in Barcelone throughout the year, it is very common to have the motorbike as the way of transport around the city. In fact, Barcelone is one of the cities with more motorbikes per capita in Europe.
